Letter From Secondary Principal

Welcome to Bear Country!
Let me ask you a question:  What goals have you set for your child?  Would you like to see your son or daughter become a mathematician, a political leader, a novelist, a teacher?  Where does being a servant to all and a follower of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rank in those goals?  The mission of Brentwood Christian School is to lead students to love God.   I believe that goal establishes the necessary foundation on which learning about His world and pursuing these goals can begin.
I am a product of Christian education.  While this is only my fifth year at BCS, I attended Midland Christian School, received my bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University, taught at Westbury Christian, and taught and served as an administrator at Midland Christian.  All of this adds up to nearly 30 years of experience in Christian education as a student, teacher, and principal.  Christian education is not only an eternal investment; it is a gift that I hold very dear to my heart.  It goes without saying that I have a deep love for Christian education and truly believe in the ministry it provides…a ministry to which I have devoted my life.

The secondary school at BCS “offers Austin-area parents, students, and educators an education alternative that is ... clearly Christian, academically excellent, and available to many.”  As a college-preparatory school, our goal is that every BCS student will attend college.  That goal drives many of our policies, procedures, and educational philosophies.  However, beyond the basic curriculum, students will:

  • Have access to a rich, state-recognized fine arts program—with access to a new state-of-the-art Center for Science and the Arts.
  • Be encouraged to live an active life, learn the assets of teamwork, and practice good sportsmanship through our athletics program and physical education department.
  • See the benefits of communion with their peers through clubs like the Spiritual Life Committee, National Honor Society (NHS), Student Council, Chess Club, and many others.
  • Become leaders in their community through serving as class officers, through earning community service hours in our Distinguished Scholar graduation plan and NHS, and by attending our 7th/9th/12th grade retreats.
  • Learn biblical principles in every class, along with the required Bible classes and the chapel service held once every week.

Our students consistently perform exceptionally well at district and state level academic competitions, our classes rank in the top two percent in the nation on standardized achievement tests, and our students' PSAT/SAT scores consistently average higher than our public and private school counterparts.  We have graduated a number of National Merit Scholars, a fine by-product of providing a well-rounded educational program with fine arts and athletic opportunities for all ages.  We have been in the business of educating children since 1963 … our rich tradition speaks for itself!
I want to end as I began … what goals have you set for your child?  The heart of our mission is to first build our students' foundation in their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and second, to foster well-educated leaders for the 21st century who honor and glorify God in their work.  We hope you share these goals and that we can partner with you and your child on this journey!
In Him,
Jared Lee
