K4 Through Third Grade

Music class for K4, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade is a place of song, movement, listening, acting, and much more. It’s a place where children understand that music is a gift from God. Students learn about the elements of music and how to implement them: dynamics, tone color, tempo, beat/duration/rhythm, pitch, texture, form, and style. These elements are presented progressively so that each year is a building block for the next. Students learn to feel and move to beat and rhythm, match pitches and sing with solfege (do, re, mi, fa …, play classroom instruments (focusing on the ukulele in grades K-3), play game songs, write music (grades 1-3), study music history (grade 3, specifically), and perform short musical plays.
