The Fine Arts Department had a great first semester of the 23/24 school year.  As football season was drawing to an end, we saw the field band combine with the choir and a feature dancer to earn perfect scores in the TAPPS Field Band Competition.  The points earned in that contest will carry over to the spring for the band state championship as the Brentwood Band aims to defend their 4A State Championship.

The High School One Act Play returned to TAPPS Contest in San Antonio this year and finished 4th in the Regional Round.  Five individual awards were earned in competition including All-Star Crew, two Honorable Mention Cast, and two All-Star cast awards.
The drama students enjoyed a very brief break and then started right back up to begin preparations for the upcoming music.  We will be performing Willy Wonka the first weekend in February.  The cast is set and the rehearsals have already begun!
On Dec 7, High school art students put on the first fall art show at the High School Band and Choir concert where the Band and the Choir combined for the second time this semester in performance, and the first time on stage to usher in the Christmas Season.
Then on Dec 9, High school band students traveled to Smithville to compete in the ATSSB (All Texas Small School Bands) regional competition against students from public and private schools varying in size from TAPPS 1a up to UIL 4A. Students were selected to the Region band and will be advancing to the next round, Area, in January.
The Middle School programs have been nearly as busy during this time.  The MS Choir competed in a Solo and Ensemble event in which they earned the highest possible rating with both their mixed group and their women’s ensemble.
Eight members of the middle school band competed in the middle school region contest.  Two students were selected as alternates to the band and may yet get called up before the concert in January.  We are proud to have had one young lady earning 8th chair overall in the flute section who will be representing Brentwood in January as the best of the region come together to perform.
The middle school art students had their first art show at the middle school band and choir concert.  There was so much talent on display both in the lobby and on stage, that I could not help but sing praises to the Lord for the gifts that he is developing in these kids.

As always, thank you to FAB for supporting these kids.  I encourage everyone to find a way to join and participate.  The programs are what they are not only from the work put in by the students, but by the work put in by the parents behind the scenes.  You not only allow your own kids to have success in the Arts, but many more students have so many more opportunities due to your service!
